  17. This patch should only be used with NetWare for Macintosh 3.12.  It addresses
  18. two problems with AFP v3.12a: 1) Certain combinations of volume names lead to
  19. mounting the wrong volume, failure to mount a volume, or ABENDs, and 2) Users
  20. with expired passwords could not login using the NetWare UAM.  They are
  21. disconnected, and sometimes the file server malfunctions.

  33.      Certain combinations of volume names lead to mounting the wrong volume,
  34.      failure to mount a volume, or ABENDs.
  35.  
  36. SYMPTOM

  38.      Users with expired passwords cannot login using NetWare encrypted
  39.      passwords.  They receive the following error message:
  40.  
  41.      MESSAGE
  42.  
  43.           Error -1072 occurred while trying to login:  session has been closed
  44.           by server.
  45.  
  46. SYMPTOM
  47.  
  48.      As soon as any Macintosh user tries to login, file server utilization
  49.      goes up to 50 to 65 percent and the same error message is returned.

  51. SYMPTOM
  52.  
  53.      The user names show up as logged in, but cannot be deleted in MONITOR
  54.      under Connection Information.
  55.  
  56. SYMPTOM
  57.  
  58.      After three or four users login and receive the -1072 error, the next
  59.      user who tries to login with encrypted passwords will have their
  60.      Macintosh workstation hang.
  61.  
  62. SYMPTOM
  63.  
  64.      If you try to LOAD MONITOR after a user receives the -1072 error, the
  65.      file server may ABEND.
  66.  
  67. SYMPTOM
  68.  
  69.      If you try to UNLOAD AFP, the file server appears to hang.
  70.  
  71. CAUSE
  72.  
  73.      To resolve a problem with some third-party products, AFP.NLM was changed
  74.      to try to match volume names as closely as possible.  This caused an
  75.      anomaly that may surface in the above listed ways.

  77. SOLUTION
  78.  
  79.      Apply the AFP.NLM v3.12a patch to v3.12c.

  93.      1.   At the file server, UNLOAD AFP.
  94.  
  95.      2.   From a DOS workstation, copy *.RTP and PATCH.EXE to the SYS:SYSTEM
  96.           directory.

  98.      3.   At the DOS prompt, type PATCH.
  99.  
  100.           A prompt will ask which file you would like to use.

  102.      4.   If you have the NetWare for Macintosh 3.12 5-user version, type
  103.           AFP5.
  104.  
  105.           If you have the NetWare for Macintosh 200-user version, type AFP200.

  107.      5.   At the file server, LOAD AFP.

  109.           Note that the version has been changed from 3.12a to 3.12c.
